sida
finally some interesting work: i was three days in gitega, the second largest city in burundi, to follow our program of "adoptions from far away". it means there are some people, in italy, who are giving some aid to the ngo that delivers it to about 80 children each month, so that their families can pay them the scholastic fees.
before i went through all the enformes of each child, and then i visited some of them, in their houses in the villages or in their schools. tiring, but worthing, because when you see so many kids smiling at you you feel better. the children are chosen because they are poor and they can not py the fees of the school on their own, and many of them have lost their parents and live with the grandparents or older brothers or oncles or cousins. in particular, the first cause of death is sida: i hadn't realised till now, but many many many children are affected by sida or are alone because sida killed every member of their families.
but does it make sense to pay the school to someone is going to die in ten years? i'm not sure, but i think so.
