traffic and police
this morning i was stuck in the traffic. traffic is something awful here: you see accidents at every corner (this morning, one). one million inhabitants, and no traffic lights. the good things is that they are too poor to buy many cars. sometimes i think development is not a so good thing. (the same happens with rubbish: bujumbura and the countryside are surprisingly clean, but it's because they are obliged to recycle everything because they can not buy new stuff).
police is an other big deal: usually, they are the ones who commit the crimes. and if not, they turn they heads away when they see a crime. some days ago, some armed robbers stole some money from medicins sans frontieres seat, and they came with a car. when they went away, someone called the police, who is 500m far away. they arrived after one hour, and then they left to look for the bandits. on foot.
if you meet a traffic jam and police together, the effect could be quite dramatic.
