the end
this is the last post. i left burundi some days ago, for many reasons, but above all bacause i wasn't learning anything more, and, after the end of the little project i was in charge of, nothing interesting was likely to come for me. maybe it's a risky decision, because staying there i would have continued to get some (little) money, but i hope i will find something else.
anyway, the last emotion Burundi gave me was one of the best of all my stay there. it was my last weekend, and we went to the beach. we were swimming and playing volley when suddenly, fifty metres from the shore, one hippopotam appeared and passed all along the beach in front of us, sometimes under the water and de vez en cuando emerging with its enormous head. like to say goodbye. it was really exciting.
my burundi adventures end here. if i can get a morale from all i saw, here it is:
things are very likely to get worse: the campagna elettorale for the elections that will take place in 2010 has already started and the clashes are expected to go on increasing, also because the ones in power do not have any intentions to share it; a big part of the cooperation as it is conceived now is not effective; the population is growing too fast.
then, it's difficult to be optimistic about burundi's future. nonetheless, i really think we have to struggle to change this destiny and act if it could be possible. afterwards, we will be in peace with ourselves watching what will happen.
in ogni caso, forza toro.
FINE
